INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/ GUARDIANS
At Monster Court, kids, parents, family members, friends and even teachers get to accuse each other of the sorts of monstrous “crimes” that normally go unpunished – even during lockdown! Judge Smudge will hear your case, reach his verdict and then deliver some monstrous justice! Is your dad causing air pollution with his fatal farts? Does your mum have an unhealthy obsession with Dermot O’Leary? Are the kids always squabbling over the last ice lolly in the freezer? Then you need MONSTER COURT!
If selected to take part, the accuser will be given the chance to present their case in front of Judge Smudge himself. And the person they’ve accused will also be there to defend themselves. Judge Smudge will hear the arguments, consider the evidence, and maybe even call some witnesses or seek an expert opinion!
Then, when he’s heard enough Judge Smudge will reach his verdict - and deliver some monstrous justice!
The programme is aimed at 6 to 12-year olds but we’re keen not to exclude younger or older family members, teachers, friends, neighbours etc. Grown ups are encouraged to apply too. Its time they got some monster justice, right!? We will consider everyone who applies equally.
Filming will take place during August, September and October 2020, via a Zoom call with the Right Honourable Judge Smudge. These filmed calls will take approximately 1 hour, and we may also require some additional smartphone filming ahead of the filming day, for the purposes of “evidence gathering” and obtaining “witness statements”, etc. We also need our accusers to confirm that the person they are accusing is willing to appear on Monster Court with them to defend themselves!
Should your child be chosen to take part, you will both need to be available at the time and date of your Zoom trial with Judge Smudge. Exact dates to be confirmed and may be subject to change.
For your application to be considered, children and grown ups must provide:
1) A completed application form, available by registering below.
2) A recent photograph of themselves (with their authorising parent / guardian if they are a child).
3) A brief (one-minute) video clip telling Judge Smudge all about their accusation.
Video clips can be filmed on any device, including phones – and does not have to be professional quality. It is very important that it is no longer than one minute in length, due to the size of the file and in order to prevent difficulty opening it. For more information and advice, please see our Uploading A Case Video guidelines.
Please explain the accusation you want to bring before Judge Smudge! We need to know who you are accusing and the monstrous “crime” you are accusing them of! Don’t hold back! We really want to see why your case is so important to you – so be as creative as you like. Let’s see your personality shine!
4) Confirmation of the defendant’s consent.
We will need to know that the person you are accusing of a monstrous “crime” is willing to appear on Monster Court with you to defend themselves!
Please note that you should have your clip ready to upload before completing the application form
Applying through the website is the only method of applying for Monster Court Series 1.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
All completed applications should be submitted by 10am, Friday 9th October. If you have not heard from us within a month of your application then unfortunately your application has not been successful.
If you do make it to the next selection stage, we will give you a call. We’ll need to talk to a parent or guardian first - and then we’ll want to chat to you a bit more about why you think you and the person you are accusing would be great on the programme.
If you have any queries, please contact us at judgesmudge@monstercourt.co.uk
